Tires too Expensive?

Hey guys,
I have been pricing tires for my truck, BFG T/A KO to be exact and all the quotes I have gotten are in the $900 dollar range out the door. Is this too much? Is there a comparable tire for less? I am currently living in Boston, Mass. If any of you guys can give me a more reasonable price range or know a good dealer around here please let me know. Thanks...

One last thing... Will the 285 fit without any problems on my truck and is it worth getting the bigger tire? Thanks again.

I run Mickey Thompson MTX LT315x75xR16. I have a 3" lift, but it would not surpise me if they can fit without a lift. 305s should fit.
I got them on the Internet at www.desertrat.com for $149 a tire, no sales tax, special $60 for shipping all 4. Mount at Pepboys for $10 a tire. Cheers.

yes they will fit.

Check out Sam's Club, if you have one in your area, often what you pay for a membership is ofset by 4x by buying tires there.

I live south of boston and i think sears has decent prices, but compare prices, some shops will price match. Try tirerack and use that price as a reference.

MCDEV,

I have BFG AT KOs (285 x 16's) with close to 60k on my 2000 F 150 (4X4, 5.4, s-cab, stock suspension).

Great tire, and I think I paid around $700 for the set about 3 years ago.

On my '98 F-150 I just bought a set of tires made by Nokian. It's a Finnish product. Uh, from Finland. After talking to the owner of the tirestore (he's second generation owner) he said it's what he put on his wife's car. It's a fairly good aggressive tire pattern. We live in Michigan. It's a Nokian Vatiiva steel radial LT265/75R16.
They said the tires are so true to round, they hardly need balancing. I paid $632.08

I find that hard to believe.......sounds like that salesman was feeding you a load. Even if tires are complately perfect, the rims are usually not.

I bought Pathfinders in a 265-70s- 17" and they work great, as you can see by my screen name i use my truck like a mule, and never have had any problems. The tire is made my Goodyear and its a great tire and they are not that expensive. i think i paid 420 for mine. they will be a little more because you want 285. I got them at Discount tires. Also JOEZ06 is right desertrat is a great place to get stuff for you truck, i like close to one here in Tucson Az and its great they have every thing you need for you 4X4 pleasure.
