2001 F150

First of all I know very little about ford trucks, that said I'm looking at a 2001 F150 extended cab with an 8' bed 2WD, it has 4.6 Triton V8. It's basically a work truck with air, tilt, bench seat and 16" wheels.
I want the 2WD basically for mileage, The NADA lists the truck (wholesale) 2000.00 below the asking price of 10,000 and it has 85000 miles on it. can I expect any decent mileage with this motor or a ballpark estimate will do.
Do Fords have a tag on the rear end to denote gear ratio of the unit such as GM, if so where might I look to decipher the code. I don't want to purchase a truck to find out it has a 4.0 something rearend, I will use it for daily transportation, hauling light stuff around the farm and occasionally pulling a popup. thanks for any help you can give me.

you need a truck with a 3.73 / 3.55 RR, it will lack power but get much better gas ML.

Look on the tag on the rear end. It should have the ratio on it. Mine says 3L55 for 3.55 limited slip.
