wiring switch question

I'm not sure on the wiring for the relay. On the relay the pins are wired #30 -12v+ #87 -to compressor #85 -? (to The switch) #86 -? (to12v Ignition). They only show 3 wires and not the 4 that the relay has. I'm used to grounding 85 and 86 is the positive trigger from the switch. I'm confused on how this is supposed to be wired. The other side of the switch is grounded so does that mean the want to use the ground as the trigger? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's your 3 wires going to the relay. You will need a jumper in there. Some relays do not have 87A, so don't worry about that.

Thank you!! Do both 85 and 30 need to be the same source of power? (both constant or both ignition or can 30 be constant and 85 ignition so it will only work when the key is turned on?)

You can split those up if you want. I am not sure how big the compressor is and the power it requires, but it is usually good practice to feed any power hungry add-ons directly off the battery with it's own fuse or circuit breaker very close to the battery terminal. That way you are not putting an extra load on the factory wiring and factory ignition switch. Not sure either what vehicle this is going into, but the later models are already setup with upfitter switches for this purpose.

And then yes, you can feed 85 with ignition on power. That will be 4 wires though.
