Help! No start (not typical issue)

When I try and crank my starter, it makes this rough kind of slow clicking noise, like it isn't quite catching the flywheel, it isn't very fast, but I don't know what to do, (it was working earlier today)
Edit: it sounds kinda like a machine gun, but won't actually crank

Do the batteries have a good charge? If you don't have a charger most auto parts stores will charge them if you bring them in.

I will definitely try that, I don't think I left anything on, like glow plugs, key, etc, but it's always a possibility. (I do have a charger luckily)

How many times per second is it clicking? If it's about 10 times a second (or faster than you can count), it's probably your starter solenoid clicking because you have low batteries.

It is about that fast, it sounds like the starter is not quite hitting the flywheel l, and it may be the batteries cause blower sounds weak, I think I left the glow plugs on and it drained it

could be bad batteries, or bad positive OR negative cables, or simply a bad cable connection at battery or or other end of cables. .

Good news! My batteries were just dead (phew) any idea where a fuse would be for the glow plugs? Mine don't turn on (1984 6.9)

no fuse. there should be a fusible link coming off the starter relay on the fender going to the controller on top rail of the back of the block.

Good to know, when I flick the switch, (connected to switch, not key) nothing happens, no light, not even a click

Looks like I just have a loose connection at the end of the glow plug harness, other than that, all is good! Thanks for the help
