AAT Sensor Frustration!

Hey guys, with my truck back on the road and in some cold weather here in MN, I am seeing some new issues. One issue is the ambient air temp sensor taking a crap. The sensor I have in the mirror is a ONE piece sensor that snaps into the mirror housing itself and the short harness has a BLACK connector with female pigtail. The replacement I got from Ford looks to need to mount into something larger, to then snap into the mirror housing, and then has a WHITE pigtail with MALE pins. Ford cannot tell me what I need to do to get an honest replacement or update the harness to get this one to work. I am seeing several negative temps and my 6.7 will not idle high with this sensor saying it is 80 degrees ambient.

I am fixing to hard wire the new one in but I am still stuck unable to properly mount it in the mirror. Ford parts made the ‘hilarious’ comment about having to sell me the whole thousand dollar mirror.

What part# did they give you? Should be HC3Z12A647A and look like this..

I attempted to pull mine so I could get a better look at the sensor but it didn't drop out as easily as I expected, so I left it alone.

How easy was it to get that to pop out? You got me curious to see what mine looks like but not wanting to break it. I pressed the tiny tab towards the sensor but didn't get any movement.

The tab pushes forward then you need to get some decent down force, I used my knife to the side of the tab. Last time I took it out I broke the tab unfortunately.

I literally took the sensor in to ford and the parts lady said the white one was updated…. That helps me none when it doesn’t even plug in or mount.

If you or someone else has ever replaced the mirror with an aftermarket one, the oem sensor won’t work in it. Not sure if that’s your case but 100% of the time when the sensors don’t match that’s what I run into because people don’t wanna buy the mirror They broke for the ford price tag.

The temp sensor and the cover are sold as two separate components. You are positive the sensor doesn't install into the cover somehow?

Temp Sensor - Ford (HC3Z-12A647-A) $16.66 Tasca Ford Temp Sensor

Temp Sensor Cover - Ford (HC3Z-17K709-A) $46.24 Tasca Ford Temp Sensor Cover

Unreal how expensive the plastic crap is compared to the electronic sensor.

So I popped one out on one of the work trucks and compared those mirrors as a whole to mine… I definitely have aftermarket mirrors. I bought a lemon. I have had it pointed out that my fenders and front doors are different shades that the rear doors, bed, and cab. So naturally they through on some aftermarket eBay BS too. Though the body work was clearly professional.

So I have a few options.

One- Clean the contacts of the sensor (they are corroded in the pigtail) and see how long I can make it work until one of these aftermarket shops responds and can help me replace it.

Two- Hard splice the new sensor in if their overpriced plastic works wit the mirror (think I can get the pigtail for the other end?)… I mean no wonder they went with eBay mirrors.. A grand per mirror at Ford for heated power mirrors and I dont even get power telescope or fold????

Three- Once again buy cheap aftermarket mirrors, but upgrade to the full option mirrors and take extra care with protecting sensors and choose a company that will support their products aftermarket sensors or hopefully match what for already has.

Or option 4, full wiring reroute to add a AAT sensor up in the grill as most vehicles use.

You ever figure this sensor out? My 23 has the same one, factory mirrors. 36 hours old and outside temp went from 50 to 165 and then quit working. Will go by dealer Monday and ask them but just curious, definitely the same sensor as you are showing.
