the starter is not grounding properly. every time i try and start the excursion the starter just clicking. had starter checked twice and both times it tested good. i changed the connection at the starter and still get the same problem.
Starter is not grounding properly??? What? The starter is grounded by nature of bolting to the transmission or engine I forget which. The batteries are probably dead if its clicking the starter is fine.
^^^ That would be the first thing to check. There could be enough corrosion on the post to interfere with conductivity and be barely visible with the cable attached.
When reconnect the cable, be sure to apply dielectric grease to reduce further issues with corrosion!!!
I would swap out the starter relay, just to be sure that isn't the issue. I would also bang on the starter (with a rubber mallet, block of wood, etc.) while someone is trying to start it. I've done this several times to get a faulty starter going. Sometimes the starter still 'works' but its going bad. This same trick can be used on a fuel pump or other electric motor. It doesn't fix the problem, just gets you going until you can fix the motor.
