No start HELP!

Just recently replaced the hoses on my fuel bowl as the top one on the passenger side had collapsed almost completely. Everything went back together fine and so I moved on and replaced my glow plugs. Trying to start the truck now and it’s cranking but won’t fire. I can smell raw diesel and there’s a ton of white smoke coming out for the exhaust. Have rechecked everything and it’s all currently showing plugged back in and reconnected correctly. What did I miss?

Did you buy motorcraft glow plugs from the ford dealer or a reputable site? If not a lot of people have had terrible luck with off brand glow plugs in these trucks and also even if you buy “ford” glow plugs on Amazon or eBay a lot of them are fakes

Someone else can chime in here. But I had the bigger wires on the relay hooked up the same way as you do but the relay wouldn’t activate and my truck wouldn’t start. I switched them around and the relay worked and the truck started. May be something to consider? I bought all motorcraft parts when I did mine other than the relay (Napa) I thought the relay would work no matter which side you put the constant 12v to. But in my case it did not.

Did you check the fuel heater fuse under the hood? If it’s blown pull it out and try again. It may be shorted out.

when I replaced my mechanical fuel pump and fuel bowl a few months back I thought my truck was never going to start again, brand new batteries got so drained trying to purg the air out that I had to jump start it and it fired up. In think I should’ve filled my new fuel bowl with diesel instead of leaving it dry. Lesson learned 👍

Yes I used ford motorcraft glow plugs. I will be checking my fuse though once I get home. Just need to get my power probe from work.

I’m not even sure the block heater works.

Plug it in for 30 seconds. Poke your head under the truck and listen by the oil filter. You will hear the element heat the coolant.

If inop, test element for continuity. Rare they fail, but cords can take a dump. Often just the end needs to be replaced which is cheaper tha a cord!
