can anyone help with what the wiring would be on a 51 5 star dome light it does have the door switches and i bought a new light for it. the wiring you can get at carpenters shows 2 wires going up to it which has me confused i was thinking that there was a 6v fed to the light and the chassis was the ground. anyone have a good schematic of the wiring diagram would be helpful.
thanks al
thanks my door switches have only. there is a switch on the light also. what has me confused is that if the door switches are closed will the light be able to be turned on manually? i can see how the switches will close the circuit you will not be able to turn the light on manually with the doors closed that i can see. is that why they run the 2 wires up?
thx al
anyone have a picture of the dome light on a 51? was it cut into the headliner ? great if someone has a picture of how it should be . i bought a new headliner but not real sure hw the dome light would fit into it.
thx al
I took a bunch of pictures and drew diagrams of the dome light placement when I took my truck apart, and after going through phones and cameras and computers I can't find them anywhere. The short answer is yes, you have to cut a hole for the lamp and a hole for the switch in the headliner, just above the rear window, to install and mount the factory dome light.
One of the wires is hot so you can use the dome light anytime; the other feed is controlled by the door switches. The standard cab had no door switches but also ran the two wires to the dome light, that is confusing. Be careful with the cutout area of the headliner when installing it; that is where the headliner likes to crack or crease.
thx everyone and don t i finally found a schematic just like you explained set it up on the bench and wired it and worked perfect. then i set up a mock out of a piece of hardboard for the light cutout and switch. will tackle that in the next couple days after super bowl.
thx again more questions to come you guys are great lol
