so here's a second intro in the area that will most interest me...
Just got a great deal on a '07 Expedition EL Limited, High miles, but it was too good to pass up. Plan on using it for longer family trips and short 1-4 hours away towing of my S2000 track day car.
I have always been a forum-type guy, so I figured I'd better join up. Tons of great info and I've already watched a few dozen hours of Maculoco's content on Youtube. I'm getting a ticking from the right side bank, so I'll be tearing into the top end of the motor soon enough.
Figuring out what was optioned and not on these is IMO impossible... I searched for a few weeks to try to figure that all out, but basically came up empty. No DVD, but it does have 4WD and the HD Tow package, but It didn't come with the controller. I have a Tekonsha that just needs 15 minutes of free time to finish the install. It came with some 'fancy' aftermarket rims that I'll probably try to sell sooner or later and get something a bit more traditional. Honestly, I don't care what cars look like if they run well and are comfy and well-optioned! My S2000 and Uhaul trailer combine to around 5500 lbs once I fill the car with tools and various accouterments, and every once in a while I might tow an enclosed trailer that will be closer to 7000lbs, which is at the top of the 80% rule for towing capacity. We usually have a caravan of cars for our trackdays and races, that travels 65 on the highway and makes frequent stops, so I think we'll be ok for the 3-4 times a year that I'll be towing.
The seats have the normal tears in them, but aren't uncomfortable, so covers will likely wait for a while. The front passenger window is slow, but works, and the driver's mirror won't auto-retract, but those are both pretty minor. So far I've not found anything else that isn't working. The motor does have what sounds like a cam follower that is rattling on the passenger side, so I'll be tearing into the motor soonish. Looks like it's a PITA to get in there, so I'll probably replace all of them, and at least check over the lash adjusters. So far I've not heard what sounds like any noise from the phasers, and timing chain, but depending on how things go, it might get a whole-hog refresh in the driveway with a new timing chain and all. The scariest part of the whole job looks like disconnecting all the little sensors. Those plastic clips can get brittle and cause big headaches. I'm generally not afraid of wrenches
The body and paint is what i'd call immaculate for the miles.
I'm considering adding some of these to help with loading in the rear. https://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index...ducts_id=48736
230k is high, but not crazy. I've seen so many of these with 200k I consider it pretty normal. $5k on the road is a deal for just about anything that runs and drives anymore. If you take the front cover off just do the chains and guides. It's a fair amount of work, especially on the trucks with clutch fans vs electric it's worth doing at that mileage. It will probably look worn anyway.
About the only way to figure the options is with a sticker. It may or may not still be available to lookup online. A lot of options back then we're standalone. I dont think dealers run Oasis reports anymore. Not sure if you were aware from how you said it, but they never came with a brake controller. So just need the harness to connect to yours and plug it in under the dash.
Looks decent enough from the pic. Enjoy.
