On my 5.4L engine, the tube extends into the block 2 1/2 inches. with on o-ring at the top where the tube meets the block. Mine was jammed into the block so tight that I had to drop the oil pan and drive it back out with a hammer, but if yours is broken off at the outside of the block, I dont see why you couldn't punch it back down into the pan. Providing, of course that the lip at the outside of the block where the tube butts up against the block is no longer there. I don't know how difficult it would be to retrieve it through the drain plug. The tube is pretty thin, so you'll have to be careful how you punch it down. Just my opinion, I haven't done it myself. Worst case, you'll have to drop the pan and drive it back out. That, I have done.

The flange or rib where tube meets the block is gone.
Flush now with the top of the hole in the block.
I tried tapping and threading the inside of the smaller diameter where it necks down and using a bolt with spacer to draw it out.
Bolt just pulled itself out of the tube and came out alone.
Been trying to get "ez out" extractors in the tube's piece and spin, but cannot get those to grip.
Everything online shows exhaust manifolds off.
HATING that thought.
I know nothing but broken studs to look forward to.
I think I have enough hunks of round and hex stock that I might be able to weasel a driver near there.
Just wasn't sure if there were baffles, windage trays, or anything else in the way if I were to even try it.
Looks like a BIG job getting the pan off.

Appreciate the tip !!!

What about driving a nice and sharp awl between the block and tube to try and collapse the tube and relive it's grip against the block?

On my 5.4l the dipstick extends a few inches beyond the tube into the pan. It looks to be clear enough to drive the tube down without hitting anything. However, it looks like it could drop and lay on the baffle/windage tray in the base of the pan, but it could also drop all the way to the bottom. Here are a couple of pics.

WOW That helps explain quite a bit.
THANKS

ALL DAY yesterday, what a PAIN ! ! !
I worked and worked to get the old tube end out.
Hoped I could pull it out with a hooked hanger on my slide hammer.
No luck, wouldn't budge upwards.
I did try distorting it so it wasn't round, but still couldn't get it to pull out.
I tried tapping it again and using a spacer and pull screw to try and lift it out...NOPE
Ended up with an EZ out screw extractor getting it to rotate.
Took a long time of spinning it round and round and finally lifted out.
But...
It was only a piece from the o-ring up.
The rest was still in there.
Tried slide hammer and hooked hanger again.
The remaining piece wouldn't budge.
Worked a while again but wasn't able to reach anything good enough to hook.
Ended up trial fitting the new tube.
One little push into the hole in the block and...
TING
Heard the end of the old tube fall into the pan.

Tried sliding some strong horseshoe magnets along the bottom of the outside of the pan.
Then fished a telescoping magnet around for hours without any luck.
Poured a couple gallons of kerosene through trying to flush it out, no luck.
Poured the drain oil back through then fresh.
I ended up leaving a couple horseshoe magnets on the bottom of the pan and duct taped them in place .
Hoped to hold it in place if it makes it there.
Thinking I will pick up more oil soon, get a magnetic drip plug and remembered I have a couple stronger magnets.
Maybe go fishing again when I get time.

BIG thanks for the pics, gotta help.
Thought I was going to be real smart and tried my boroscope camera.
Wasn't able to see much of anything though.
Tried scoping the hole in the block before working on getting old out, and went through drain plug after the old piece fell into pan.

Much appreciate all the help

The piece of tube might be sitting on top of the baffle and not on the bottom of the pan. Driving will likely cause it to fall to the bottom of the pan, so I would try the borescope and telescoping magnet the next time you drain the oil. In the meantime the oil pickup tube has a screen on it, so there is virtually no chance that piece of the tubing is going to cause any issues.

That is pretty much what I was assuming too after seeing the pictures.
Didn't think it would be able to get sucked up, but wondered about it getting tossed around in whipped up oil splashing.
Worst case I could think of was getting wedged between a crank throw and bearing cap or something bad like that.
I drove it 5-6 miles after I gave up trying to get it out last night.
Thinking the big magnets I put on outside of pan should be able to hold it until I try again if it makes it down.
Will probably change oil again shorty.
Appreciate it all again, THANKS

In water...maybe, but oil is much thicker so that piece of tube is going to stay on the bottom. Don't lose sleep over it.

I put a stronger magnet on the bottom of the pan yesterday.
Wife is picking up oil to change again this afternoon.
If I can get it out, I will, but not going to spend hours on it.
If I don't get it this time when draining and fishing around, going to replace the drain plug with a magnetic one and see if it ends up getting out of there eventually

That's a great idea, let the drain plug magnet do the work for you.

Drained and changed the oil again last night.
No luck fishing.
I have a pretty strong magnet on the bottom of the pan still just ahead of the drain plug.
Going to order a magnetic plug and put that in next time I change the oil.
Looked and seemed like I could only get my telescoping magnetic, fishing coat hanger, and wires on top of the tray inside the pan.
Tried to get lower but just didn't seem like I could get underneath.
Will see what goes on down the road.
Hoping the magnet that's there now grabs it and holds it.
Then magnetic plug allows me to get it out eventually.
Enough being covered in drain oil for now.
I was taking my air hose and blasting down the oil fill tube on top of the valve covers for a bit thinking the wind might be a help, and it was getting last bits of oil out of the pan-wanted to get as much of the kerosene remnants out as possible.
The mist out of the drain hole kept me a little messier than I needed to be.
Once again, THANKS and all the help is appreciated ! !

Don't sweat it, the kerosene burned off during the first drive.

Still amazes me how thin oil in newer vehicles is nowadays...showing my age of course
5/20 was warm, only two days worth of driving, and just runs out like water
I am still used to 20/50 and straight 30w stuff coming out in chunks
