Hello,
I have a 94 Explorer with many miles but still in great shape. With winter coming I have a problem with the auto lockouts engaging and disengaging. I really do not have the cash to change out to manual lockouts do any of you know of a soluntion to help with the problem. Is there a rebuild kit or some thing I can check out in the system?
Thanks Samo
I don't know much about the hubs, but if you search the forum for auto hubs ratherthan lockouts you might get better results. Here's one I found for you though: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ht=%25252Bhubs
Are you sure its the hubs??? Does the 4x4 light come on.....because theres a very common problem in the 91-94 explorers with the shift motor......it gets dirty and wont work......its real ez to do yourself take you about an hour hour and a half, let me know and i will send the the link that tells you exaclley how to do it along with pictures
Thanks for the info,
I do believe hubs are a better chioce of word than lockouts. And the 4x4 light does light up I believe the hubs just dont engage properly.
Maybe you should read the posts that have stuff like no 4x4 engagement, etc. I cleaned the transfer case motor like some of them said and I now have 4x4 again. I don't know how to diagnose hub probs, but my light came on and 4x4 didnt work, cleaned the motor, bam, 4x4.
If it is indeed the transfer case motor it'll cost you like $5 for stuff to clean the parts, and maybe even less if you have stuff already.
I remeber reading a forum here and it told you how to test the hubs to see if there goo or not, i would search it and see what you find.....i think it was something like you jack up the front of the car, and sping th front driveshaft i dont remeber waht you do after that
