This is typical for chinese junk. no matter how good of a deal it seems like you're going to regret it unless you sell it and let someone else regret it for you.
It looks as though I owe Summit an apology. Once I got around to examining the suspect filler in the holes, I found it to be soldier or lead. I was able to file the surface of each hole flush with the base, and then I could see/tell the each hole is indeed sealed.
Also, Summit contacted me and said that I could return the carb. However, I told them that I would be keeping the carb and explained what I had found. I expect to get many more miles out of this carburetor.
During my rebuild I was surprised to find that all the linkage, the floats, jets, needle and seats, float adjustment nuts, choke and secondary diaphragm are all Holley parts. It truely is a Holley/Autolite 4100 hybrid.
The crudeness of the casting says it all. looks like a high school project some kid cast in shop class. I'd send it back for a refund if possible.
Almost as bad as my Holley casting. The carb ran perfectly for two years. I'm sure that once I install it, now rebuilt, it will once again run flawlessly. We'll see. If not, then I'll go to plan B.
Thanks for the feedback.
I thought those holes were up on top of the casting, I never took mine like it apart. It didn't look like lead in the pics. Glad you are keeping it, not trashing it.
