I am looking at the Superchip 1705 microtuner and I was wondering what increase in mileage could be expected on a 2001 powerstroke 7.3 liter. The power boosts are intriguing but I am curios what happens to mileage on any of the three settings? Also, are their any negatives to re-programming your diesel from the factory settings? I've read the info on them and it all sounds to good to be true. I tried searching the forum but I didn't find another thread about mileage and the Superchip.
I have a Diablo Delta chip instead of a tuner, but I've heard that on the lower hp settings, a gain of 1-2 mpg is fairly normal. On the higher settings, there isn't as much of a gain. With my chip on the "tow" setting, I used to get a 1-2 mpg gain, but now that I've got propane, I can't stay out of the throttle long enough to check it, and get about the same as without the chip, but have a lot more fun.
There isn't a downside to installing chip or tuner, except it'll make you wonder how you ever lived without it.

It won't do any damage to the engine or transmission, so long as you make the proper modifications to compensate for the new program. (ex. Exuast, Intake, and gauges). No matter what you do, after your warranty is up Ford will always tell you "get lost". Either that or they'll rip you off to fix your rig.
