I have an 04 250 Superduty with the Superchip tuner. On the economy setting I am getting 14.5 MPG and am very disappointed with the milage. Is something wrong and if so what can I do to improve my MPG ?
Let see there is a few things that effect the mileage. Short trips, LEAD foot to name a few. Up here in Alaska I was getting 12to12.5 till I moved further away from my work, I drive 21 miles one way and getting 14.4 to 15 "in 4wheeldrive" and winter. Runnig about1700 to 2k on rpms. Have learned to stay off the throttle till youngsters want to play!
This is a long and drawn out let alone controversial subject........
I get 11, 13 max with my F-350 CC DRW 4x4 with a 4.10 rear. The problem is what happens when you have 1000 people computing MPG...it is a completely uncontrolled experiment.
Some people report getting high teens, even low 20s........while im sure this is possible its not probable with the majority of us (or so i believe). There are to many variances in each individual person, let alone vehicle.
Ironically enough, the last time i drove to florida (its about 960 miles right down I-95 southbound) i averaged about 12 to 12.5 down and back, and thats cruising at 90-95 MPH.....(i did have the predator on 65 HP tune installed at the time, with the governor taken off.......its amazing how fast these trucks can get around traffic when need be ) But i average between 11-12 city/highway driving, i dont floor it at every stop, i actually try to make it shift at 2500 RPMs. But i have a lead foot on the highway......im sure if i kept it at 60 MPH i would get much better mileage, but then i would have Hyundais and Kias passing me, and truck or not, that will not happen.
It all comes down to driving style and method of tabulation.........its that simple
PS: im sure there are a few trucks out there with problems that get worse MPGs, but they are few and far between
My 05 F250 SRW gets 10-12 mpg in town, and 10-12 mpg on the highway.
If I tow a 7,000 pound toy hauler, I get between 5-8 mpg. (Going speed limit, using CC)
I use synthetic oil, it is completely stock, and dealer has reflashed it to fix rough idle and mpg issue.
Fixed the idle, last tank got 11.4 in town, never any heavy throttle.
Other than this issue, I need to knock on wood, the engine runs great, no leaks (10,600 miles so far) no rattles, everything is perfect. If I could figure out this mpg issue, I'd marry this truck.
As it is, I feel a little jilted. My previous truck was a GMC with the 8.1 litre gas engine and the Allison tranny. I got 10-13 mpg with it, but the tranny had some very annoying habits, so when the warranty expired, I traded it for my 05 SD.
just bought '06 F250 SD FX4 3.73 rear, 10 days ago. It has almost 1000miles on it. when i filled up yesterday i averaged 15.5. before that it was 11, then 13. the truck is completly stock. i use fuel additive ever fill up
14.5 sounds around what I am getting on my 04/6.0 I have 101,000 on it and also have a lead foot. Easy to do when your not paying for the fuel though. Best I have gotten is around 16. I have a srw sc 350 utility body. I do around 500 to 1000 miles a week.
I just got back from a trip up to see my parents and son up in washington, had a great visit with my father who also celerbrated his 82 birthday. I got the fuel tags from the wife and figured out the mileage for the whole trip I averaged 21.5 mpg. for a new truck 06-f250 4 x 4 Super cab 8 ' 6-sp trans. pick up on oct 27 06. I do use diesel klean every fillup to help keep out water and etc.
The whole trip only filled up 3 times 1900 miles averaged between fill up 600-660 miles per tank.
Just got back from working in MS, lot of highway miles, last 3 tanks: 16.2, 17.2, 17.5. I have the SCMT on the econo tune but am about to try the HP tune. When I lead foot or tow my boat I get about 12. Moderate lead foot and city driving 15-16.
I have the Edge Juice/Attitude on a F250 SD CC. On a round trip from Ventura to San Diego I got 18.9 mpg, with the Edge on the 100 hp setting. I kept it under 2000 rpm. I use diesel klean with every tankfull as well.
2004 2WD SC, 8' box 6 speed...26K miles...only mods are 3.08 gear from Randy's, South Bend clutch (I LOVE IT) and SCT on 2nd setting...
Mostly city metro 45-50 mph during Christmas, shifting at 1700 rpm, not down shifting until 900 rpm ,and last tank is 18.1 mpg.
Love the 3.08 in the light (for F250) body. 1850 rpm at 80 mph = 23 mpg!! And that is by very carefully filling up until the suds die down and only fuel is in the neck for an exact reading.
Just ordered a case of Stanadyne at the forum's recommendation. Can't wait until I can test it out.
BTW, I have an open diff....imagine the look on the kid's face when I lit up the right tire at 50 in 2nd gear!!!
I dont know how you guys do it. i have a 24 gal. tank and usually get only 300 miles to it or so. so thats what...12 something to the gallon. and i drive slower than crap to keep the rpms down. i can hardley get my meter to say 15 mpg coasting down a hill just after resetting it. which programmers help you the most for fuel economy?
I drive about 100 miles/day in a stock '04 SC 6.0 Superduty, averaging 15-17mpg highway or in town, try to keep the foot out of the injectors but hard to do sometimes when you get gray hairs driving 40 in 55mph zones or the equivalent. change fuel filters every 15,000 miles oil every 7500...only run fuel additive every couple thousand miles...
While we are sitting on this topic, this is my first diesel truck, ive heard things like, leave it running if your just running inside the store for a second and stuff. could someone tell me how this helps, or does it take a ton of fuel to get it started back up or whats goin on with all that. how long can you leave it running to = the same amount of fuel being used to start it back up. i just dont know to aweful much about diesels, and im 18, this was a mighty jump for me to purchase, seeing as my first truck only cost me 4000 bucks. thanks guys
