While jumpstarting a tractor today my 08 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 6.7 and 6 speed 4x4 died today and would not start. Intermittent cranking. It threw a po 513 code for immobilizer key. I do not have the key fob with the buttons, its just a key. I jumped it with my 7.3 and it started. Let it run for a bit, shut it off and restarted a few times to see if it would do it again and it didnt. Cleared the codes, moved it over to hook up to a trailer, got out to raise up the jack and it died, now it wont crank, the h&s tuner will not communicate with the ecm and my innova scanner will not either. Both are getting power though. Did i fry my ecm? Ive checked my fuses, insoected all the wiring i can access under the dash and in the steering column.
I have made an account with cummins forum but im awaiting validation.
Also i checked the crossover wire between the batteries. I didnt remove the plugs from the ecm but tried to wiggle them and they were secure. The area around is clean and dry for the most part
I left the batteries unhooked overnight, this morning i hooked them up and no change. This evening i went through and double checked all the fuses, all good. I turned the key on and made sure i have power all across the fuse box and i do. Tried to link the h&s programmer and got nothing, same with my innova. The innova did however link to the abs and i got the following codes
c2202-original vin mismatch/missing
c2206-vehicle configuration mismatch
U0100-lost communication with ecm/pcm
I'm no diesel mechanic and the last thing I wanna do is be an omniscient diesel mechanic, so I feel like you've probably done the best diagnostics to your ability. I do not like the look of those codes and your circumstances; I find it hard to believe that you would've fried the PCM as there's probably some series of diodes that prevents that. These things are smart. It wouldn't surprise me if a voltage drop from being too dead or something could affect it. Unfortunately most people I know with these trucks have odd module faults like this, so I genuinely think your best course of action is to send it in. Best of luck lol
I got it figured out, I just forgot to post on here. As I was testing pins on the ecm for voltage I was getting erratic readings, it had me very puzzled. I pulled myself further underneath th pickup and when I bumped a ground wire all sorts of things came to life but would go away if I moved at all. Long story short a new driver side battery terminal fixed all my issues.
