Hi I have a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT. I changed out the steering column, and now it won't start. I even changed out the lock cylinders. As soon as I turn on the key the theft light is blinking fast and the truck won't start. Any suggestions on fixing this problem.
I know that this sounds a little like a mechanic malfunction. Does it make a difference that the wire that comes from the shifter wasn't connected when I first started it with the new column?
The PATS transceiver on the replacement column either isn't connected properly or is defective. If the engine started normally with the original column, then swap BOTH the tumbler (so the key will turn) and the transceiver from the old column to the new and it should work with the old key(s).
The PATS transceiver is that ring around the lock cylinder. It's job is to read the key when the switch is first turned from OFF to run. It's usually held on with a single screw.
What if I was to purchase a new locks cylinder with keys. Would that work, because the key and tumbler from the column that is in the truck is now in my 98' Lincoln Navigator which is my daily driver now while I get the Expy ready to sell
