I have a 1960 F100 with a 223 in it. Has anyone here used a pertronix ignitor on the stock distributor in place of the points and condensor? If so, what were the results of your conversion?
I have several and they are awesome for my stock engines! Easy to install and better cold starts. I prefer to not set points… Mine were on 292 but I doubt that matters!
I had one on my old 74 Maverick but it wasn't a 223. It's nice to not have to set points. I haven't been able to find one for the 223 yet but I will keep looking.
I think you have to use a different selection method for some applications. Using the distributor number with a cross reference is what I had to do to find the correct pertronix for a 272 distributor with load-o-matic. I found the numbers on the outside of the distributor bowl and did a manual lookup that way. There are lots of 6cyl so it would be surprising if not covered by one of their products. Get the numbers off the distributor body Old points & guts Ready for install! This was for a 272 Y block example.
Consider Posting a good picture of your distributor number on here to see if anyone can help.
Thanks for the info. I got the number of the pertronix box in the video but didn't see a number on the coil box. I have an answer to my question though and a good starting point.
These are the only numbers I could find on my distributor
COAF 014 looks like a Ford number. It looks like you have the information you needed now. There are multiple options on coils to choose from. I use a 12V coil and power it from the same circuit as the igniter. Not sure why you would need the 40,000 coil on a stock engine at normal operating conditions…
Please report back when your done so others who are following this thread have a full answer with the kit # you used and your results. (one stop answer without needing to look at 4-5 different threads to piece together complete information)!
I will do that Red. It will be awhile though. I just got the truck and am trying to get the info needed to get it running while I'm finishing up so other projects. I will eventually get around to it and let everyone know how it works out.
