Can I remove the turbo with the up pipe collector attached? I’m going to pull it to delete the EBPV. It’s leaking oil. And also install bellowed up pipes. I was thinking to pull l the up pipes from the bottom without removing the collector since they’re going to fall apart anyways. And then pull the collector when it’s out of the truck? But I’m not sure that I’ll have the leverage with it out of truck to remove the 4 collector bolts?.. bad idea??
Up pipe to collector bolts were rusted that my socket rounded them. I cut the pipes off. Then cut the bolts off manifold. My trans was out so was a good time to do this.
Collector uppie bolts were frozen. After hours of welding nuts and breaking bolts. I ended up using a new collector.
Get a 13mm swivel socket for the collector to turbo bolts. I bought a whole set. One bolt was 15 mm.

yeah I’ll get a new collector. I just wasn’t sure if it was a bad idea to try to remove with it on. After pulling old up pipes out of donuts
LOL, thats what i bought and i got what i paid for.
Pass side didnt fit (too long) but the collector did with tons of bumps in the casting that took a while to grind out

I’m thinking about getting this one. But like you said. Get what you pay for. I like the idea of Riffraff. But I don’t want to pay 399 just for the pipes
also I’ve rebuilt a few turbos from my previous Cummins trucks. HE351CW and S300. I was thinking to either rebuild this one or just buy the whole new center cartridge?.. my S300 had oil on the turbine side. I rebuilt it but it still leaked. Which scares me- that’s the reasoning behind maybe just wanting to buy a new center cartridge and having that peace of mind. I don’t know that mine needs it. I just figure while it’s out why not make sure it’s good for years to come.
Anyone used the KC s300 cartridge? It’s $100 more then the stock Garret one on riffraff diesels site
I have the Spturboost billet wheel and CHRA. Seems nice. Spools up pretty quickly. I only have 1k miles or so on it so I cant speak of longevity. https://www.spturboost.com/

that may be something I’m interested in. I just know that Riffraff is a reputable site. So I was thinking to order it all there you know
Personally I just can't recommend Swag to anyone. I have had a couple of products in the shop from them and they are clearly overseas knock-offs. I prefer to go with @Riffraff Diesel because Clay has been on this forum as a contributor for probably 15 years or more now. They also go out of their way to be unapologetic about using American labor, and raw materials in everything they make. So many sites are now peddling the very parts we have always tried to avoid on eBay and Amazon, but they are just putting their own names on them to make them seem more legit.

you're probably right. I might just spend the extra $$$
If you have any desire to upgrade your turbo/parts of your turbo just do it while you have it out. These turbos are a real pain to remove the first time you do it, especially with the ebpv still in place. After you’ve done it 4 or 5 times you really start to figure it out. One thing to consider, I thought the kc s300 turbine wheel was well worth it for my 97. I am running a much outdated turbo in it, a diy barder d66 kit, and the kc wheel helped me clean up some of the smoke earlier in the rpm band.
