Not an engine question but I feel like you all are the right crowd; my question is whether or not I stand to gain any performance if I were to add a crossover pipe to my current exhaust. Setup now is a 408w, long tubes into 2.5", flowmaster 40s, out the back, no cats, independent exhaust. Due to mid fuel tank, the driver side has a couple extra bends and length. I'm pretty happy with the sound (daily is a hybrid, so I want my money's worth on good weather weekends), but am curious if there are gains to be had that I could feel from the driver seat if my shop adds a crossover or not.
I've tested hooking both sides together with a crossover on the dyno. I've seen it help power and I've seen it make no difference. But it almost always makes the exhaust quieter which might be an advantage.
Awesome. The way I understand you, might pick up SOME hp, might not, but would definitely tone it done a bit.
With less than 300 miles on the build, the power still scares the crap out of me, and the drone is tolerable for now, so if it gets old or to be too much, I'll have my guy cross em over ahead of the mufflers, but good to know where I stand in doing so! Gonna stick with light throttle and low rpm through the neighborhoods for now. Thanks
Any time you can get a greater number of pulses in the pipe it'll sound quieter. With both sides tied together it'll sound more like a single exhaust but each side gets to use both mufflers. My friend Wes found this out with his drag racer with two 429 engines. Two engines running together at the same time doesn't seem anywhere near 2x as loud as a single engine. It sounds more like it has a single exhaust, more pulses smoother sound.
