I have a 1973 f100 ranger with a 360. I have a friend that has a new flow master super 44 he wants to part with. I think I can get it for about $60. How do the flow masters sound on the old fords. I don't know what kind if exhaust I have now, but was planning on replacing it eventually. The one he is selling has a single inlet and dual outlet. I have never done any exhaust work before, but I can weld. What all would be involved in putting a new exhaust on. I will put up a pic of what I have now. Thanks in advance.
After crawling under it I think I need a new exhaust sooner than later. I didn't realize it was rusted through in several spots.
Exhaust work can be really easy on these rigs.. especially on 4WDs because of their height. And even easier if its is an automatic because there are no linkages in the way. On manual trannies and those with saddle tank, most will rund duals down the right frame rail.
If using a SI/DO muffler, it'll need the head/header pipes merged to a single, 3-inch tube going to the muffler, and 2.5-inch tubes exiting. Hopefully that's the sizes of that muffler yer looking at.
Do the math because sometimes what may appear as a deal really isn't given how and what needs to be done to install it. Exhaust work is good welding practice.
If interested, get exhaust tubing components or a tubing kit from Speedway Motors. Their mandrel-bent kit is only like $140. That's a really good deal.
Tools:
Chop saw or cutting wheel on a grinder. I have two grinders - one to grind and one to cut. It's a pain in the azz to switch wheels!
Deburring tool or files
Sharpie
Welder
High temp paint to stave off rust
Exhaust hangers
Patience
I think I can handle that. I went ahead and got it, I offered $40 and he took it. I think the local auto parts stores should have what I need for exhaust pipe and I already have the saw and grinders. It is 4x4 and a 4 speed so I will have to wok around that stuff. If I run down the frame rails can I run duels out the back or should I do side exit and what size pipe coming out.

Those crimped tubes from local stores kill flow, HP, and torque. That's why mandrel-bent tubing is recommended.
