Like a lot of us I’m sure I was looking through marketplace the other day. I saw a 7.3 engine that came out of a truck that caught fire. Miles were unknown and they think it’s a 2000. I’m looking at it in the morning and wondering if based off a couple pics you guys think it would be worth picking up. The lady is asking 550 for the engine and 550 for the trans. I figured even core the injectors and HPOP should be worth something right? Assuming it didnt get too hot the block and heads should still be useable after cleaning right?
If it is an E99, the spider is worth more than L99+. The HPOP is ~$200 untested and the injectors are the same. The truck may have been running when it caught fire, but buyer beware.
You could get $550 or more by selling parts from the engine, but unsure about the transmission. It comes down to you having the space to store it and the desire to remove, clean, list and sell the parts removed.
It should be forged rods, mine was atleast. Don’t have a ton of space at the new house but have enough, even if the girlfriend doesn’t think I need it. I got caught off guard before needing an engine to build so I figured grab one when I can for the right price
Trans is worth $1500-2000. If it were 4x4 about another grand more.
Say what!? Who's paying that for a core? If it were a runner maybe. That's an unknown roll of the dice, $500-600 is all something like that is worth.
$1100 for the pair is still a ? in my eyes. It would probably hinge on how long it's been setting like that and whether it's locked up or not. Could end up being a boat anchor w/ just enough parts to break even. Then you still got a boat anchor you have to haul off. Not saying don't just saying go in with eyes open.
Not a clue, have been able to get away to look at it yet between my schedule working doubles and then not being available at the times I am. I get the water intrusion for sure, is there worries about the heat from the fire? I figured there’s still a heater hose, the fuel filter cap and some insulation it looks like on the starter cable so it couldn’t have been super hot yet, correct?

You can get 500 out of the cases alone. I see people on Facebook groups looking for cases all the time. Parts for Zf6 are getting hard to come by. Chances are if it were in a running truck good chances the transmission is fine. Quick look at it in person should answer most the what ifs about the transmission.
