partially depends on what you're working on? two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive? did you check your u-joints? does the truck try to move when in gear and letting the clutch out?
Was going up hill on my way home from work, my road gets pretty muddy in the rain. I have a little timing issue also, so, sometimes up hill it loses a little power so I have to compensate with the gas pedal. Everyday I go up the same road in 4 wheel high in 2nd gear. No problem we'll it's been pouring rain for days . My road is snot now, instead of losing power in 2nd gear I chose to try granny in 4 high then big bang. Blabla please tell me I can fix my baby.
Lets try to narrow down. Does it do it (the bang) with transmission neutral by just pushing clutch in and out? Or do you have to be moving? If only when moving try shifting transfer case to 2HI and see if same result.
If you used 1st (granny) gear and 4H, I hope you did not try to go faster than maybe 5/10 MPH. IMO 1st granny gear is for LOW speed operations, NOT getting up a snot slick road. I bet you had that motor wound out? So some questions now.
1. Did it make the noise once or does it make it every time you take your foot off the clutch? As in let the clutch out?
2. Does the truck move under it own power in all the gears in 2wd?
3. Does the trans shift normal now?
4. Does it make the noise in 2nd, 3rd gear 4H?
5. Have you got under the truck and insp the drive line. Meaning both drive shafts, u joints, and the front axle steering u joints?
