As noted, people seem to look at the third light instead of the actual tail lights and these are indeed tiny little lights compared to modern cars. And I don't trust people on the roads up here as it is.
I did like Bob did and mounted a vintage "stop" light under my tailgate, just over my rear bumper. Truck is still 6V and this is a one-wire unit, so I only had one place to tap...the brake light circuit coming off of the switch on the master cylinder. It only lights up as a brake light (which was noted above and I agree with...you do NOT want this a marker light in any way....it should be a surprise to people behind you brake). Mine also works when the hazards are on, but that is only because of the way the aftermarket turn signal wiring taps into the brake lights. Tailgate opens all the way without hitting it.
