BJ, I bought a cheap 3rd brake light on ebay. It was about 15.00 shipped. Has double-faced tape on it. I mounted it inside using the tape to the middle lower of rear window and ran the wire into the inside rear window rubber, then up the left rear channel, then forward in the channel above the door, then down thru the left A pillar and out under the dash. I have newer swing pedals so just hooked into the brake switch, before the turn signal switch. Works great and easy to take back out if you want. It would be a little more work for a truck with brake switch under floor. I'll see if I have pics- I doubt it, and truck is off getting painted.
Thanks Greg. The one I'm looking at is around that price. I was thinking about using double sided 3M tape and running the wire at the glass rubber. I didn't think of mounting it inside.
If the intent is to have a third brake light like on a modern car, you don't want it to be a tail light, too. It's that flash in your face action out of darkness that gets someone's attention. If it's also a tail light that's on at night, you lose that. As drivers, we've become accustomed to seeing third brake lights for nearly 40 years now, since the mandate in '86, so it's a good thing to add to our old trucks, imho. Generations of drivers have never known anything different.

Here is the one I installed. Sorry I have no pics. It does work properly- secret is to wire it after brake light switch, but before turn signal switch, so it doesn't flash like the left or right does when TS switch is activated. It's pretty bright. Yeah I agree you need as much help as you can get when stopping in front of these texting 20 somethings who never saw a vehicle with only standard brake lights!
My truck is a flatbed with wood sides. I installed a marker light as 3rd brake light. It’s an LED but works fine on 6v. I wired it to the pressure switch. You can see it directly below the Ford logo. There’s a second LED directly under the brake light, a white one I installed as a backup light. That one is wired to a rocker switch under the dash.
I installed small LED lights that slide into the end on the bed rail roll and wired them to the tail lights. They give me double "third" tail lights as well as double turn signals. I can not remember where I got the LED lights from, but I can pst a picture if you want.
