(2000 Ford F350 Super duty XLT 7.3 manual, cab and frame)
I got a whole bunch of BCM messages about Dome light, door close sensor, Wipers... goes on and on. Before I shell out $300+ for a "reman", a few questions:
1. Can FORscan actually read the state of switches, or just read the codes? My code reader can read/clear the codes, but that is all.
2. Any recommendations for testing to figure out if the GEM is fried, or a wiring problem (there has been a bunch of rain, but I if not see moisture or residue inside the GEM...)?
Thanks a bunch for any help. I love my truck, but the flashing dome light is a bit distracting.
I can't tell you about FORscan but you should look to see if you've got corrosion on the connectors from water damage. If you have lights on top of your truck, it's a good bet you have water running down into the electronics when it rains. I lost my under dash fuse box that way.
Can FORscan actually read the state of switches, or just read the codes?
Yes to both, provided you have an interface that supports the older low-speed network. I use the OBDLINK MX+ bluetooth and it's excellent although a bit on the expensive side.
Check your grounds down in the kick panel area on both sides before you go to far down any path. You're looking for corrosion, body rot, and water.
