Tranmission type codes

I have an f250 5.4 Crew Cab Super Duty Off Road 4x4 auto transmission that I bought used. I have an engine light and had friend who is a mechanic read the codes. They were P 0741 and P 1744. He used a Snap On Code Reader. The trouble shooting section stated there is a problem with the Torque Coverter Lockup Solenoid or the wiring in that system or possibly the Program Control Module. My problem is trying to find out which transmission is in my truck. The only indication I have is that it says on the dip stick to use Mercron transmission fluid Not MercronV. I understand the chances are that I have a 4R100 but I'm not sure. The sticker on the frame at the rear of the driver's door doesn't tell me anything about at transmission.

Anyone have any ideas?

The sticker on the door frame has a "TR" on it. Below that there will be the letter "E." That means it is a 4R100, which was the only auto trans in the Superduty with the 5.4L until 2005.

So what are the driveability symptoms of these codes being thrown? It may be helpful for others to hear about the problems you experienced and the resulting solution.
