Good morning. I'm upgrading my tires/wheels but am keeping my factory 18" setup for the time being. I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction regarding new TPMS sensors. Do any brands other than OEM perform as expected?
Are you only looking for internal sensors?? I have TST TPMS system. The sensors screw onto the alve stem. Has worked very well for me for 10+ years! Saved my *ss several times.
TST = Truck Systems Technology. I recommend.
One MINOR caution. I am slightly color blind. I upgraded to their color monitor and I could not read it. They swapped out for a monochrome for me. Good support!
I use Autel programmable sensors in my cars for the winter tires/wheels. Some of them are dual frequency, so you don't have to worry about buying the right one. TPMS sensors are one of two frequencies. I buy the dual frequency version.
I have not yet used an aftermarket TPMS sensor in my F-350.
I have 2 sets of rims/wheels with TPMS sensors ......... so 8 total.
I've replaced 2 with Ford/motorcraft sensors which of course fine.
The tire shop I went to about 2 weeks ago replaced with some generic tire sensor (no clue on the brand). So far they are working fine as well.
(the sensors were in a pack in a drawer by the front desk of the shop. The discussion between the Tech and the guy at the front desk was "those are the last 2, we need to order more". I assumed from this discussion that this generic is all the stock and use on everything. I have no clue if it is a multi-frequency device, or single frequency. I simply got the impression that they used this same sensor on everything. That's just my impression, I personally no knowledge about TPMS sensors except they break and have to be replaced.
I’ve had bad experiences with aftermarket TPMS sensors of my 2018 F-250. Shop put them on all four. Properly reset and reprogrammed. The odd behavior: on truck start and sensors wake-up from sleep, within the first few minutes if you watched TPMS each sensor would go from last reading to 0 or low to current reading. And sometimes, during that 0/low reading, it would trip the low pressure warning. With four installed, the warning would come on every fourth drive or so. Having them removed and replaced with OEM. Price difference negligible .. why take the risk?

I've been thinking about getting one of the Autel programmers to be able to rotate tires. Would you recommend?
