I own a 1993 F150 with the E4od trans. This trans
seems to never shift in the same pattern twice. Sometimes it will shift through all gears in a few seconds, sometimes acts if slipping, sometimes it will give a tire chirping shift. When shift lever is in OD position it will not take off in 1st gear.It also will not shift in to OD. The OD on\off switch seems to have no effect. The cruise doesent work either. I have replaced the gear selector sensor on the side of the trans. but no change. I had the codes run and I get no hard fault trans codes. Ive talked to 3 different trans mechanics, all say its probabaly a wiring or comp. problem. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Eric
I,m having the same problem in my 1995 F-150 XLT 4x4, it seems to have a mind of its own, no fault code. Its still under warrenty but the guys at the dealer cant figure it out, cuz it doesnt seem to do it when they drive it. They suggested that it may be the MPL sensor, but if that was bad they say it would giv off a code????
I have a wierd-shifting trans also,(97,PSD,4X4)I hope to fix this with a powerchip. a buddy of mine has a 460-E4OD and he used a Banks ottomind and now has a normal-shifting trans. so this may be an option for y'all. good luck.

Soon to be 20 year old thread. This brings back some memories. This was the year ('99) I bought my first 9th gen pickup! A '96 supercab F150 XL w/ the 300-6 and manual trans. She was a good truck.Kinda high miles for the time, being she was only 3 years old with 80k miles.Just like a new truck though.I kept her until '09 when I replaced her with my current '93 F250 diesel.
