I have a truck with fresh synthetic oil zero miles and 2 hrs of run time over the past year. Should I change the oil? While working on more complex vehicles I have read you should always change the oil after extended down time to “prevent severe engine damage” from the manual. Not sure if that’s the manufacturer being overly cautious or not.

She’s about to get fired upppppp!!! Thank You Of course now my ocd is now kicking in but what about the old fuel in the tank….I’m gonna start her up anyways it’s either gonna run or have to get pumped out.
Fired up immediately and ran for an hour. She’s midway through a mini overhaul despite only 132k miles. Overdoing it in hopes of only having to perform maintenance going forward. 2.3 is going for the 7.3 longevity!!
Yeah my take is years make zero impact on oil. All about hours and severity of service.
For long term storage you still need to run engine up to operating temp, including the trans, and run the AC and heater. Operate the front hubs if you have 4WD. Move the seat if you have power seats.

I bought a 1995 in August that had been sitting for 13 years. It had a tank and a half of fuel in it (2-tank system). After I ran both tanks of fuel throught it (probably almost 200 miles) and filled the tanks with new fuel, I changed the fuel filters and engine oil. There was ZERO difference in the way it ran afterward.
