I recently purchased an aftermarket front-end fender liner. Compared to the original it's probably 1/3 the thickness, super flimsy. All aftermarket ones appear to be the same quality.
So in light of this I was considering trying my hand at plastic welding to repair the original.
Other than a large number 2 and the Ford logo, I can't find and other labels. I need to know what kind of plastic this is so I can get the right plastic to repair it with.
Research indicates common plastic options are polyethylene or polypropylene.
Does anyone know what material the OEM liners are for these trucks?
You can go on Amazon and check out the uses for several types of JB Plastic Weld which some on here says it works very well. The other thing that I like is to drill small holes (like shoe lace holes along both sides of the tear and then lace safety wire to it. Then paint it black to match. Should last forever. Happy Holidays.
I don't know how expensive they are but you could glue 2 new ones together
Or clean up and sand your old one and glue new one over it but probably a whole different shape knowing how aftermarket stuff is
Thanks for the ideas everyone. It's a '91, sorry for leaving that out, details are in my signature I thought but doesn't look like it shows on mobile.
Not opposed to salvage yard, just not having a ton of luck getting ahold of any of them.
Was looking to have a physical bond as opposed to a chemical one but JBWeld is only going to fix one part, the other part is missing a chunk of plastic.
I had actually considered getting a second and somehow bonding the two together for a thicker liner, but interestingly they did make the attachment points appropriately thick, it's the rest that's thin. Not sure what impact that would have on mounting fit and finish.
If no one knows the type of plastic, I guess I'll double down on trying to get someone from a salvage yard to answer me.
