Transmission code help oppinion
628 Excessive convertor clutch slipage
what i go from here i have to rebuild the transmission or just replace the cluch between the engine and trans and all that is in there flyweel torque convertor and all that please oppinions anything would help.
Not an expert on troubleshooting that code, but problems with the torque converter clutch are in three general areas: electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical. Before replacing anything, I'd start with the electrical tests. I'm familiar with the A4LD, so if you have a '91-'94, I can help you with the electrical tests. The electrical is also easiest to test, so I think it's the best place to start. After the electrical checks out, then you need to check the insides of the transmission.
i have problem with electric too when i press gas and go faster the electrical gauge dosent stay in the middle gows all the way to high realy high then at idile gows under half and lights are not so powerful no more.....how to explain
when i accelerate my headlights and dashboard is verry bright
at idile the headlights and the dash board is weak not strong light .....
one more thing my Vss vehicle speed sensor keeps bouncing up and down doesnt stay at corect speed lets say i go with 40
it gives me 40 then 45 or 35 or 30 50 geeps going up and down like crazy and is not stable......
1st quick test for an alternator. Put a voltmeter across the battery terminals (engine off) and note the voltage (Should be around 12 V). Start the engine. The voltage across the terminals should increase by a few volts (14-16 V). If the voltage doesn't increase, that indicates a fault in the charging system.
Another alternative is to get a charging system tester that can test it under load and such. Most parts houses have one and will test your charging system for nothing, in the hopes of selling a battery/alternator. They can usually test it out of the vehicle, too, if you pull the alternator and take it in.
Good luck
