i have a code and it saids torque convertor slipage anyone knows were is that torque convertor located do i need to drop the transmission? please anyone give your oppinion
torque converter is bolted to the flywheel. It is between the engine and transmission. You will either have to pull the transmission or the motor to get to it. It is usually easier to pull the transmission.
c_rossman could be correct.
I only answered the questions specifically asked. However, if the filter is clogged, it will not allow enough fluid to the converter which could cause it to slip. If it is starving for fluid, it cannot build up the correct pressure to operate the transmission.
Hey. Would slippage also be caused by low fluid level? I dropped the Tranny pan on my 99 taurus today and I think that I pulled out about 7 quarts, but only had 6 to put back in. did not think anything of it, went on a test drive and felt some irregular shifting once it got warm... I was paranoind that I messed something up. Could it be the low fluid level? I checked the dipstick and it was low...

could be....low fluid level could cause foaming. foaming is air bubbles mixed in with the fluid and cannot be pressurized properly and the fluid is very unstable. causes more heat buildup too because there is less fluid to transfer the heat
