Could be a 1 click at a time deal with the torque wrench. If I can't get a definitive answer I'll get a hold of DieselSite and pick their brain.

The fact that it's not an easily answered question attests to how few head gaskets actually fail.

Kind of reminds me of a Ford 7.8 inline 6 I have, S366 with a ported and polished head and cranked p3000 pump. A solid 380hp motor. Got to worrying about the stock head bolts (6 per cylinder) and contacted a friend of mine that pulled with a destroked 7.8 around 1200hp. He laughed and said these motors don't need to be fire ringed until 60psi and the stock head bolts will hold over 100psi of boost. Sure wish I could fit that 7.8l in a Super Duty. Cummins crusher.

I pulled driver’s side head in the cab once.

Never. Again.

That’s the ‘easy’ side.

I don’t think your situation requires head studs.......

Shot DieselSite a message about it. If it were to lift a head down the road the amount of work involved would then be 10 fold.

I think you are close to needing head studs boost wise but with having stock injectors I would think you are fine. I believe cylinder pressure goes up a lot with bigger injectors running hot tunes. Ik with my 200/200 injectors and kc stage 2 turbo I only see about 40-45 psi boost max, on fresh head gaskets it popped one. This is where that virgin head gasket seal is very important, that’s why you are supposed to install studs one at a time. If you are willing to spend the money to do it definitely won’t hurt

When I talked to Jake from Irate Diesel he said head studs could be done in truck, but required unbolting motor mounts or something to lean engine around.
I didn’t want to mess with that, so I skipped them and am just careful with the skinny pedal. I have 205/30 paired with a S364.5 and just keep an eye on the boost gauge.

What kind of boost numbers are you seeing with that setup?

I added my original gauges before going T4, so my ISSPRO boost gauge only goes to 30 psi. I can easily exceed that if I mash on the accelerator. But normally hover between 15 ~ 25 psi while towing ~ 9,000 lbs.

DieselSite got back with me about the studs. They said I should have little to no problems installing them in the truck.

Installing studs in truck isn't a problem. Recommended if you are near 40 PSI.

Interesting based on what DMCO said above. Although, using "no problem" as a descriptive term can have a variety of meanings based on the skill level of the installer.

You thinking about the purchase a bit more or just going to jump in and see if the water is shallow or not?

Yes, you just take the nuts off the motor mounts and trans mount and rotate the engine with a block and jack against the manifold. Replace and torque one by one.

FWIW being I used to drink the Cummins coolaid.

General consensus was over 40 with stock bolts was on borrowed time also. I had a truck that would go to 45+ on stock bolts and I tried not to push it.

there are other factors to consider other than boost psi like has been stated above.

Cylinder pressure from injection event timing and obviously drive pressure.

Thinking about them still. I'm pretty close to their shop in the winter.
