I won't own a truck without it! My 2015 that I bought as a leftover (good ol days!) had it, I didn't really know what it was till I looked it up. It's a must-have for me now!
Yeah me too I agree 100 percent my 2016 F350 didn`t have it and it took quite awhile for the heat to work with the rapid heat its within a couple minutes on my new 2022 I hit the remote start and by the time I get outside to the garage its working already! I would not buy a diesel truck without it!

The engine block heater helps a lot since it keeps the coolant pretty warm.
I’m thinking about buying the block for my engine blocker heater now. Even though my 2017 doesn’t actually heat up until the key is in the ignition, so no matter what I’m come out to a cold truck and seat.

From having had several sd with supplemental heat it doesn’t do anything I’m convinced, works about as good as close door button in elevators, it’s there but doesn’t do anything.

I don’t really notice my rapid heat, kind of a disappointment really. I have confirmed in forscan that 3 elements are cycling on (under the correct conditions/parameters), but when I put a thermometer in the vent, it reads pretty close to the coolant temp listed in gauge cluster, maybe a few degrees warmer. Outside temps around 20-30 degrees.

I was curious to how well the Rapid heat does compared to non rapid heat, so I did two tests. Conditions: 2022 6.7l platinum, truck sat overnight outside, HVAC in manual, on chest vents, temp high, fan speed on 5. I used Forscan to read OAT, and used PID's to read left panel temp and right panel temp. I also used an analog dial vent gauge on the drivers side center vent. All temps that were in Celsius were rounded to the nearest degrees Fahrenheit. The coolant temp and engine oil temp were read from the instrument cluster. 2nd test, only difference was I pulled the 3 50 amp fuses for the PTC Rapid Heater elements, and the outside air temp (unfortunately) was 4 degrees colder. At the 10 min mark, on the 2nd test, I shut the engine off and reinstalled the fuses, and continued taking measurements to 15 mins, so there is a few mins of no data, and the 12th min doesn't reflect the electric heat because it takes about 30 secs for the elements to cycle on and more time for it to affect the gauges.

Summary, there is a difference, but it is not overwhelming (my opinion) as a lot of us have noticed. It averaged about 14 degrees warmer, but the test without it was 4 degrees colder. so maybe 14-18 degrees warmer with it.

1st Test

2nd Test

Also, I did confirm in Forscan that the Rapid heater works with the HVAC in Auto or manual, works with the remote start in Auto as well.

Great work!

I wouldn't even call it cold when the OAT is 41. I am still wearing shorts in Colorado.

When I want some heat is when it is 15, and the diesel takes many minutes to warm up the coolant. Do you think it would make a bigger difference when the outside temp is 15?

Personally I don’t think it will! I live in the SLC area, and it’s been 15-40 degrees this winter, and it seems to do the same job, just a lil warmer. When we get a colder night again, I’ll try and retest to compare. I mean for $250, and you get the dual alternators, it’s a bargain, but I was just hoping to feel instant heat, but still 15 warmer is better than nothing.

Is it possible for the Rapid Heat to work differently in Defrost versus Vent? Because it seems the heat comes on hotter with Max Defrost versus choosing vents etc.

Good question. I don’t know, I only tested the vents cuz it was easier to stick a probe in. Next time I test I’ll stick a probe in the defrost, and try that. I mean ultimately, it’s the same amount of heat, just where it’s pointed. Max defrost will dehumidify the air using the ac, not sure if that would change the temp.
