I have a 78 150 4x4 with perches for a 400. From reading here: https://www.fordification.com/tech/engine-perches.htm it seems that I might could use the same perches for a small block. Has anyone done this and can confirm it would work? I'm looking into other options engine wise, maybe a 351W or a 300, but it just seems like finding perches for these trucks is impossible.
I cannot confirm that. However, I built an engine test stand with perches that match 400, and 460 (with conversion mounts), and my 302 also bolts right up to the stand.
I'll verify the part #'s and post back here.
The 302 and 351w have no 4wd reference. The FE motors in the 73'-77' F250 4wd (highboy) perches work tp mount a 300 I6 or FE motor into your rig except the FE's had divorced transfer cases and would need some mods.
If you're starting with neither motor or trans I'd pick whatever motor fits your truck use criteria and search out the perches that match that motor sticking to those that had married transfer cases. Do you have a transfer case in the truck?
