Big Dilemma

I sold my 2019 Superduty to the dealership at a great price at the beginning of 2022 and ordered a 2022 with an 8 week delivery promise. Of course, that didn't happen but it's here now at the beginning of Dec.

After waiting a couple of months, my brother talked me into a new Power Wagon. Its loaded up with audio, leather, 12" screen, locking diffs, wench, etc. The price on it was $68k, and the super duty I ordered is $45k.

The thing about the PW, is no death wobble, no doors full of water, no wet floors, absolute beast off road, which is what I use it for. Fit and finish is the best I've seen on a vehicle in a long time. The minuses are the price and too many electronics that I've never been a fan of.

Plus side of the stripped down Superduty is the 7.3 with 4.3's and the price. Minus's - death wobble, leaky doors, windows, tranny issue's??

Knowing what you know on your new Superduty with 7.3 would you trade the the Power Wagon for the Ford???

Doors full of water... haven't heard of that being an issue with the new SD's. If you're using it for offroad there are much better vehicles other than ANY 3/4 or 1 ton truck for that.

The tranny issue is blown out of the water, the only positive or negative you hear about it are people with issues, which is a small %. If everyone that drove 7.3 gave feedback the tranny issues would be quite small.

As my esteemed colleges from the great state of Mississippi would say, "This needs to be a poll."

My 2 cents, no I would not.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a truck from any of the big 3. You can read online about owners who have zero repairs in 100,000 miles. And you can read the same horror stories about all of them being garbage.
Personally I think the new GM has the best exterior, Ram has the best interior, and Ford is usually the least expensive model.
Flip a coin and pick one.

Take them both. You could easily make money on that stripped super duty with the 7.3 since you can’t even buy that truck in 23. That’s absolutely what I’d do if I was leaning towards the power wagon.

RAM's have had "death wobble" too, but just like the Ford's, not all do it, few by comparison on either side.
Never heard of Ford's getting a door full of water, or wet floors that couldn't be explained and easily fixed.
My biggest problem with RAM is they haven't kept up on the powertrain front compared with Ford, otherwise they are very good trucks.
Personally, I don't care for stripped down trucks, I want all the comfort and conveniences I can get.

All I know from personal observation is that after 5 or 6 winters in my area code the Ram pickups start showing some serious rust issues. GMC or Chevy 6 or 7 years. Super Duty steel body 8-10 years, Super Duty Aluminum body haven't seen and rust issues yet.

Frame and body rust, not just body.

Assuming the PowerWagon has the 6.4 Hemi it will be a dog compared to the Ford 7.3. If you plan to do towing of any kind run far away from the RAM.

The Superduty I traded had beginnings of death wobble soon as I drove it off the lot, the doors always had water in them after a rain. It did have the 6.2 which I trusted with my life.

I've thought about buying and selling in a few months, could probably easily make $5k. Another option is trading Wifes Tacoma which is same price and giving her the Ford but it would be too big and too tall for her.

For Offroad a fullsize truck is perfect for me, for a 10 day hunt its loaded up (no trailer). Dont have to worry about snapping a CV joint or anything else that likes to go pop on a light Offroader. I dont do silly stuff like rock crawling or beating on it just for the heck of it, but I need to know it will go where I point it, and get me back after 10 days of rocky roads and mud upto my minerals. Last hunt was 10 days solid rain with people stuck everywhere.

The Power Wagon fits 37" mud terrrains stock.

Ive always been Ford and Toyota, I was always never Dodge, until now, Im a believer on their new trucks.

Only reason Im considering trade is, price difference, and the 7.3 with 4.30's would be awesome for the slow offroad mountain west stuff I do.

I've had a 350 with the 7.3 for six or so months now over in Oregon, in spite of the endless rain I so far have had no water intrusion issues. I like the 7.3 other than the gas mileage, but thats par for the course. When it gets cold my driver side window can squeek a bit when going up or down, but my 21 350 didnt do that and I haven't bothered looking into a solution. The trans in the 6.7 I had before my 7.3 was annoying at low speeds (20 mph or so) but with my 7.3 it has been phenomenal.

What makes it so the Dodge can't have death wobble? My understanding was that you can get it on an SD if you have a part failure, poor maintainence, or bad tires, all three of which are reasonable?

Drive whatever you like most, personally I would go with the cheaper option because I don't like leather, big screens, or anything made by Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge but my visceral hate of them is not logical. Drive what makes you smile or not stress over payments.

People get death wobble on trucks with less than 1k miles. So there must be other reasons too. Unless parts wear out that fast.

I had a mechanic say once that Rams 3/4 and 1 ton lines have the same transfer case as their 1/2 ton??

I have no proof other than a diesel mechanic laughing and saying that he LOVED Rams because he ended up working on them all the time

However I will add than Ford has more quality control problems than a mexican oil refinery so there's that too..

Ram sent all the production to Mexico to make themselves more money. Are they passing the savings onto the customer?

No.
