I’m in the progress of replacing a few things on my 240 6 and while I’ve got it out of the truck I was wondering what timing gear set people are using for replacements.
It’s got the fiber timing gear now. There’s 3 to choose from fiber/steel , Aluminum/ steel and steel to steel. Has anyone used the aluminum/steel or the steel to steel, how Quite are they.
Thanks
The 1965 thru 1971 4x4 trucks all came with both gears in steel. I have a 1966 F250 4x4 with 300 and it does have the steel gears and I don't even hear them. They are helical cut gears, and the angle reduces noise compared to straight cut gears which can be quite noisy in comparison.
The cast iron gears in these years had many more teeth compared to the ones used in the 2x4 trucks and cars.
