Since both batteries are interconnected a good quality battery maintenance device will keep a trickle charge to both batteries. The good quality ones do a much better job at regulating the amount of current needed. I think the one I used was a 7-10 watt unit from a company named Battery tender. Avoid those units that have the tiny transformer power supply (HF nickle ninety-eight jobbies) You don't really want to just disconnect the batteries due to all the electronics that need to see 12v 24/7.

- Just a heads up, the lower Amp units work just fine but will charge slower. Since my intension is to keep the battery charged over an extended period of time, the speed of charging doesn't matter.

I haven't tried one yet, and don't really need too since I DD mine, but I have came across some comments about the NOCO GENIUS2D' s that were pretty positive.
