Having the issue on my 2006 E350 where the mechanisms (both driver's and passenger's sides) designed to be able to adjust the wide-angle side mirror (not powered) has broken and the mirror has become useless (unless you are trying to look down at the ground beside the vehicle).
Of course, replacing the entire assembly would be best, but has anyone come up with any good long term solutions to rig the broken mirror so it stays in place? I've wedged various things between the floppy mirror piece and the outer housing, but nothing I've tried has been more than a very temporary fix.

Thanks!
Mine, I popped it out and smeared caulk in socket, stuck back in and adjusted . Held for 1.5 years, and just got replaced with tow mirrors about an hour ago.
Never did try to adjust it after the caulk set.

Ooh, it pops out!? I haven't pulled too hard on it, fearing that the plastic, brittle from the Arizona sun, would break.
Soon after buying a 1997 E-Series with those "dual element" mirrors I ditched the entire assembly for the 2007 versions that have just one single mirror each side,
To me those dinky convex spot mirrors were useless, the single elements much better for me. Since your doors would allow for a simply bolt-in swap to that type mirror this would be easy to do. This is the type: Single Element Exterior Mirror
Ha! We have an ‘07 with single mirrors to which I added stick-on convex mirrors pointed at the rear wheels to aid parallel parking. Do factory convex mirrors adjust so you can see the rear wheels?

They should---my powered '07's can see the wheels if I aimed them that direction. I also use the stick-on spot mirrors (NAPA #704D) for the right side along with this thing on the driver's side:
Nice but it looks like it’ll cost 1mpg We have a camera for reversing so it’s just the wheels I need to see. Also have to work on more illumination when reversing with the limo tint.
