2006 Driver Side Mirror Help

I have checked through the forums but cannot find specific help for a 2006 F150 side mirror replacement. Some post have instruction for 2004 models but from the description and looking at mine, I think it is mounted different.

The issue is I need to replace just the mirror part on the driver's side. The black housing is good. This has the mirror glass mounted on a black plastic plate. The plate looks like it snaps into another flat plate that is attached to the power mirror controls. I thought it would just snap off but it loks like it has about 4 finger type clips molded into the back side of the mirror. I tugged at it pretty hard last night but felt like I was going to damage something. Has anyone replaced this mirror face on a 2006 Crew Cab before? Any pictures would be a big help.

Thanks,
Chris

tried to remove/change just the housing on mine but it does not appear to be made to be dis-assembled. Busted it and had to change the whole mirror===good luck. Do yourself a favor & buy a new entire unit; lots in the junkyards and aftermarkets, or $300+ at the dealerships. Mother f'n design.

In the shop manual there are instructions on servicing mirrors. It has been a couple of years since I read it, but if I remember right just the mirror glass is changeable.

Update - Mirror Fixed

Just wanted to let you all know that I was able to fix the driverside mirror. Just the mirror face / plate is replaceable and the part is available at the dealership. Mine cost $32.00. I have included instruction and pictures of how I did it.

1. This mirror plate has 4 location on the back side with locking tabs that snap onto the mirror motor mounting plate.

2. Each location has 2 platic tabs molded into the plate (8 tabs total).

3. Each tab location is at a 45 degree angle from the center of the mirror. In other words, drawn an imanginary line vertically down the mirror and each tab will be located 45 degrees to the left and right on the top and bottom.

4. I moved my mirror as far inward (toward the truck) so I could get access behind the outside edge of the mirror face. In this position I could see the top and bottom outer tabs

5. I pulled on the mirror with one hand and with the other I used a flat blade screw driver to lift on the tabs until they popped free from the motor plate.

6. After 2 sets of the tabs are free you can wiggle the mirror to get the other 2 sets off.

7. With the new mirror just push back onto the motor plate.

This was not very easy but it was not that hard either. I had to pull on the mirror pretty hard while getting the screw driver behind the tabs. Hope this helps someone else in the future. See pictures below.
