i actually have the BAFX, I’ll check that app out. I have little to no experience in the OBD department so I have to ask, how well does it do and what can it do in the prior situation where it was a no start?

and yes, totally, that’s too much to miss. And I hadn’t missed it. It was running straight out of the front seal on the LPOP housing. New balancer, a wild half assed sleeve and a lot of oil later, it finally picked up. Drained about a gallon and a half out when it was said and done after overfilling to help it catch prime. I did jack it up but really only got the truck level as it gave up on a hill while I had my car hauler on it.

to further explain my confusion, when I’ve had it plugged in before, I got a lot of good readings. But there were times it would just shut the truck off. Never understood why. I chocked it up to the tuner fighting whatever was going on with the OBD. But I have no clue what actually was happening. It seemed rather pointless to have the thing after it was all said and done. Could it have been just using a **** program?

FORscan Lite is designed for Ford vehicles.

You’ll look at some specific parameters to see WHY engine cranks but doesn’t start.

There are onboard diagnostics you can ironwork this tool. There are tests called KOEO (key on engine off) and Buzz Test that tell us everything is communicating like it’s supposed to. Then you can see ICP etc while cranking.

downloaded it already. Would love some more insight into these but will certainly try to wiggle my way through it in the morning for further info. For now, it’s going, somewhat. But for future reference I will certainly be using this. I’d like to assume it has more features than the fusion app I JUST PAID for lol. Thanks man, this will really help.

It will run every self test Ford designed for it, show you every engine PID that the PCM sees, and record those PID's for you to view at your leisure. If you go to the stickies section and hit the tech folder you'll find a whole section on Forscan with a tutorial explaining how to use the software. Also in the stickies just above the Tech Section is the charting tool that will turn your Forscan exe file into a linear graph for simplified viewing.

This is really hard to follow. I’m lost on the sequence of events, which in this case is important for diagnosis. Can you provide a brief bullet point summary of the sequence?
example
1- changed balancer
2- bad oil leak (after how many miles?)
3- lost belt
etc

Is it still leaking massive amounts of oil?

No oil in HPOP reservoir correct? If that’s true then it won’t start without fixing the low pressure oil supply.

Exactly what bolt was drilled clear through then patched? This could be related if it’s causing a leak on the suction side of the pump. Or a source of oil leak if hitting a pressure side of the supply.

Sucking air from bad pickup, worn surfaces, etc?

You’ve done work to both the LPOP and changed out the balancer. How about sharing some photos of these parts. Particularly interested in the balancer snout and cover surfaces.

FORScan and you taken from 7.3L PSD Tech Folder...

FORScan
RJWV, thank you for attempting to summarize the sequence of events. Hopefully the community is able to help him out without the engine having to come out of the truck.
