Non- android headunit recommendations...
My dad has a 2021 F-150. It's an LX, but still has all those bells and whistles in the dash. He's decided that he likes it and is interested in upgrading his other truck a little. He currently had a cheap backup camera setup in the other truck with a pop-up, dash top screen. It works, but he doesn't like having to setup the screen any time he wants to use it, and when he doesn't its in the way. He'd like to get the screen mounted in the dash.
At a minimum he's expressed interest in backup camera, bluetooth hands free, and playing music from his phone. He's said that he doesn't mind giving up CD capability, though we'll probably keep it given the opportunity. I want it to have some basic physical buttons and maybe a volume **** for ease of use.
Dad isn't very tech savy, so I think it would be better to avoid android based interfaces in favor of something more simple and OEM like. He doesn't need or use GPS navigation, and if he wanted to he could use the phone through bluetooth. Also not interested in having 4G/5G network data capability or the monthly charge that goes with it.
Don't need a lot of power. He's like me. We like to listen to music, but we don't like a lot of volume and the vehicle its going into isn't very loud.
Also dad is retired and on a bit of a budget. I know Kenwoord, Alpine, etc would probably be best and easiest to learn, but they will probably be outside the budget. I think if it is much over the $200 range he won't do it. We're probably looking for a chinese offbrand radio on Amazon and preferibly on sale. I'm curious to what radios like this any of you may have experience with and can recommend.
What is the "other truck" this is going into?
He's already got an aftermarket camera in the truck, I think its down near the license plate. Where ever it is he seems happy with camera placement, but he doesn't like the screen setup. We'll try to reuse that camer with the new radio, if it doesn't work out we'll look into a diferent camera.
