Was this a thing back in the day? Or is this a redneck solution in lieu of body shims? there is cardboard on both fender attachments up front... cardboard on both sides? Is this correct?
Those cardboard shims are OEM. At least at the Kansas City plant where my truck came from.
yeah, I found another thread with the exact same situation. I know the original owner of this truck. It is also a low mileage rig (despite the rust), so that is what had me cornfuzzled. It actually is legit.
My 1984 F150 had the original cardboard shims too...although I don't know if I'd call them cardboard. They were a fibrous material that when rotted and broken down would most definitely resemble cardboard. They seemed like that stuff the earlier laminate flooring was made out of...which I guess was like hard cardboard lol.
After painting, I reused my cardboard shims to rehang the fenders
I am going to gently (after paiotning the bolts) just bolt it back together. I am trying really hard to not enter into the vortex of forever restorations. I really want to use this as a shop/hauling stuff truck
