Fuel Tank Programming??
Our Family business here in Alberta builds, sells and services towing equipment. When we order our chassis', we will only order chassis' that have a midship fuel tank, as we always remove the rear tanks to accommodate a wrecker, or carrier body. If a chassis is supplied to us with Duel fuel tanks by a customer, and we have to drop the rear tank to make room for the wrecker body. Once the rear tank is removed, the electronics still think the rear tank is installed in the chassis which causes issues with the fuel gauges , whether they are digital or analog. The Ford dealerships in our area claim that they cannot " delete" the rear tank out of the system, so we have to install either a relay or a diode to confuse the system to make it think that the rear tank is reading full or empty, which in turn causes issues down the line when it comes to where the needle sits when displaying the amount of fuel in the midship tank that is still installed. Has anyone found a work around to this issue? Ford has zero support for altering their fuel systems , according to our local dealers. What we do works for when it comes to keeping check engine lights from popping up, but its not ideal. With the shortage of new chassis', we have been forced to take what we can get when it comes to units, and most of them seem to be having the dual fuel tanks, so it would be nice to have a solid way to fix this without any of the other issues that arise. Let me know if anyone has a suggestion.
