Dual Fuel Tanks

Can I remove the rear Tank and use only the Front 19 Gal Tank on my 1990 F250? Any help or in put would be useful. My proplem is that my front tank dumps fuel into the rear tank within two days of driving. I have the system where there is only 2 fuel pumps and no tank valve soliniod. The problem I have is the cost of new pumps. So I would like to remove the rear tank because according to my haynes manual that the tank that the gas is being returned to has the bad pump assembly. And both fuel gauges do not work front tank allways reads empty and rear tank allways reads extreme full. Truck runs great on both tanks. But I can only afford to repair one fuel sending unit and replace one pump. so this is why I would like to remove the rear tank and run with the front tank only until I can fix the rear tank.

I had a similar problem on my '87 f250. I had the rear tank removed about a week ago and have no problems so far.Don't really expect any either.

When you removed the tank selector switch I assume you connected both tank return lines to a tee and then to the return line from the engine compartment. If so, that is your problem, the return fuel is flowing into the wrong tank. That was one of the functions of the tank selector, to insure that the fuel is returning to the correct tank. For now, just disconnect both lines going to the rear tank and leave it there. Then when you can afford to repair the rear tank or sell the vehicle, it will be much easier to fix.

So, one pressure line to the engine, one return line to the front tank. done.

What I think he meant is that he has the newer dual tanks setup, not the 80's one where the tank selector was recalled. The newer system only powers the tank selected and check valves are what keeps the fuel from feeding the unselected tank.
If i remember right that is.

Theres was a recall for your truck a "fuel cross flow condition", for only 12 years. You can add a check valve to your fuel line to stop this from happening.
I would keep the rear tank emptied or don't fill the front tank to full until the rear tank empties to the front tank.
