Since the engine is out I would like to do the rear main seal but the price of the tool is crazy. Has anyone had good luck putting the wear ring in with a dead blow plastic hammer? If not I will buy the tool but $400 for a single use seems nutty. Any other ideas are more than welcomed.
I've installed many with a block of wood and hammer, haven't had one leak yet, so it safe to say it can be done, just rember the wear ring has a chamfer so make sure that it's sticking out and not towards the engine.
I actually found a "OTC" im 100% sure its a knock off on ebay for $119 just bit the bullet and bought it. The Stallion tool that diesel tech Ron used was $379 no way could I justify that. $119 is a lot easier to swallow as long as it works.

I use the ring washer. Put it on seal backwards and tighten bolts
