HELP!! Reduced Engine Power

UPDATED: 10/13/2022
2017 F250 6.7 Lariat Long Bed
175k miles
When pulling a landscape trailer, about once a week the truck will just drop power and the dash will read Reduced engine power, or something like that.
It will just coast until i get it pulled over. But ... the first time it happened, i just let the truck sit there a little bit then started it again. Ran fine.
Now ive noticed that i can just turn the key off immediately and turn it right back on, it runs just fine again.
Think a sensor is going out? i dont know why it would be fine right after off and restarting. and only when pulling a trailer.
Never causes a CEL.

I do notice that the oil temp just keeps climbing when I’m towing also. Just pulling a 16’ landscape trailer at 75 mph the temp will just keep going up, usually starts around 205 but within 5 miles it will be up to 219 - 221

Ok, changed the fuel filters today. And now within 1 hour of changing them, the CEL is On now.
P2074
Got the same code a few months ago, changed the MAP sensor. Haven’t had the CEL come back on until today!

Please point me in the right direction. and TIA

Take it to a dealer or spring for FORSCAN and read the codes.

Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. Did you buy the truck new or used?

Any chance the previous owner had fuel system contamination and forgot to mention it?

Sounds like possibly you could need new fuel rails. They sometimes can catch debris and throw an REP code when demanding high fuel pressures like when romping on it or towing. Knew a guy who had the same problem, no CEL's or anything and restarting the truck made it run just fine. And new fuel rails solved it. To say these fuel systems are sensitive is an understatement and it doesnt take much to make them act up.

When is the last time the fuel filters were changed. I'd replace those before anything else first.

I’m about to do that this weekend. The place I stopped by yesterday wanted $215 to do it. I was like “ naw, I’ll do it myself” lol
The dealer I bought the truck from said they changed them, but you can’t always trust that they did it.

Any idea what the oil temp is when it goes into reduced power mode? 240's are ok but 250's are not, maybe that is causing the reduced power? I pull a 6.5k landscape trailer daily and it's not uncommon for the oil temp to run between 218 and 220 @ 75mph with mid 90's ambient.

Not sure, sometimes it will be at 221 and do it, sometimes only 214 and do it.
I wasn’t sure if that low 220’s was ok or not?
I thought that was high…

220's is nothing to worry about. Many who pull heavy see 240's. I believe the PCM will defuel at 250 or so.

Pulled this from the 2016 Service Manual.

Check the boost hose on the left of the engine. It runs right along the radiator hose and it rubs a hole in it when under boost. Mine actually rubbed a hole in the radiator hose to and was leaking antifreeze.

This sounds like what I was experiencing My Post On Limp Mode I'll look into these items listed as code P2074. I was unable to get codes due to the place it occurred for me, again always towing my 14K 5W..
