What would you do?

So I have a 2017 ccsc 6.7 platinum with 27k mi. I can get around $74k for it now. Ordering 2023 in a couple weeks. Should I sell now or wait until the new one comes and trade? It’s been paid off for around a year now. My main concern is obviously the used market tanking when 2023 arrives.

I mainly use truck for hunting trips and pulling cattle trailers to auction a couple times a month.

Absolutely, unless you think you’ll need a truck within the next 6+ months. The fact you would even be considering it leads me to believe you don’t actually need a truck. Sell it and take the money and run.

Regarding ordering a new one, a bird in hand…

Wouldn’t even begin to gamble on when new ones will get produced or if you’ll even be able to order one. I consider myself mighty lucky to have gotten my order and not sure I’ll get that lucky twice.

Sell it, invest the money in cryptocurrency, then when it doubles or triples buy 2 more and sell them.
or keep em as grocery getters.

Multi-facited answer:

1). If you can get that amount sell it. BUT...

2). If you need a truck and can't borrow one, KEEP IT.

Depending on what you order and who you order it from, it could take a year to get it. How long are you willing to go without a truck?

That is a really good offer for a 2017 and I hear the used market has taken a turn dowward. So if you want as much as you can get for it, now might be the time. Is it a Platinum or Limited?

Sell it take your money and run. Wait about a year and a half and then buy one when the dealers are hungry and need to sell a truck.

So I’m basically ordering same truck but a long bed this go around. I have a flat bed and other vehicles as well.

My understanding is orders start 10/27, production in January and arrival who knows? I assume y’all had a long wait previously? I think the chip shortage is over for time being.

push comes to shove and ford takes that long he can go to another brand HD truck. He wouldn’t be legally beholden to purchasing another ford. I don’t know how brand loyal he is though.

another angle to take is why even get rid of a paid off low mileage truck? Do you not like yours anymore?

last thing to consider is how much price increase will the 23s carry? That’s gonna eat up some of the perceived trade in value in the end too. Then any parts/options shortages from ford on top of expected long waits on build times would have me on the sidelines until 2024 as long as I had a low mileage truck that’s in good shape.

Unfortunately long bed Platinums are hard to come by, that’s why I have to order. Also the dealers in area don’t order the dark Marsala.

I have been waiting on the interior redesign and the 10 speed trans in addition to wanting a long bed. Bigger fuel tank and more room so I can put full size tool box back on when pulling 5th wheel.

Based on last years pricing I would assume it will be around $90k.

In Wyoming if you trade in, you subtract the trade in amount from the purchase price of the new vehicle and only pay sales tax on the difference. So here I would trade in if possible to take advantage of that.

not so sure. Chips maybe - parts other story. I have a 22-raptor / and on another forum . A bunch of people are pissed because they just got calls this week (23 f-150 production started yesterday?) and dealers asking to delete heated steering wheels / messaging seats / ect. If your platinum is loaded and you like those luxuries then you very well could be in limbo either waiting for a truck to be built when those features become available or delete them in order to continue production

I don’t know how I would feel if I was about to spend $90k on a new truck and my dealer called asking me to Delete functions that have been around for 20 plus years

I confirmed this with my dealer that they are in fact not even offering heated steering wheel/ messaging seats ect if you order a 23-f150 today.

I don't know what I would do if I were you but depends on what’s important to you in a truck

Right but my concern is that in 6 months when full blown recession hits value will be 50k or something. Then we are talking a difference of owing $16k vs $40k
