Hi all,
I stripped the threads on one of the pressed in rocker arm studs on my 69 302. Is there any way to get that old stud out and replace it with the head still on the engine? The engine is out and on a stand and I've already pulled the intake manifiold, So if I have to pull the head and take it to the machine shop to get them to do it, I will. But I'd love to not have to do that.
What do you all think?
thanks,
Scott
The old trick is to stack some shims over the stud and turn a nut down against them to slowly pull the stud out. Use a standard nut from the hardware store with the right threads, as the stud nit is usually interference fit. This will only work if the stud still has some good threads left.
To install a new one, you will have to carefully pound it into the head with a hammer.
