I was instaling the rockers on the 460 i am rebuilding and all went well untill one of the studs broke off in the hole. got it out with and easy out and turns out the threads in the head were bad so i re cut them with a tap. when i put in the new stud it went in fine but when tightening it down the new threads striped out before 10 ft lbs.
what are my options... is there something that can be done to save the threads in the head because i dont want to buy a new one.
Most folks these days are going with the more modern Timeserts instead of Helicoils, a little more expensive, but a better product. For a rocker stud, you'd want to have a machine shop do it to ensure that the new threads were installed at precisely 90 degrees to the head so the stud will seat evenly and not get put in a bind, which could cause the stud to break again
